Learn to Sail

CLASS #1
This class is for anyone that wants to know how to sail a boat. Learn to navigate on the Merrimack River using buoys to find our way out to the ocean.  Learn how to operate the boat under power and practice picking up moorings.  Learn how to perform a safety and engine check.  Learn how to raise the sails and how to tack and jibe (steer) while under sail.  This is a two-day hands-on class, each lasting six to eight hours and costing $300.00.   If you want to take one day the cost will be $150.00 per person, limit four per class.  I highly recommend taking both days unless you just need a refresher or just want to try it out.

CLASS #2
This class teaches ocean navigation using paper charts and other navigation tools such as compass parallel rulers and dividers.  Check our position using the GPS to find longitude and latitude and their relationship on the chart. Learn sail trim and boat handling while under sail. This is a two-day class involving six to eight hours of hands-on sailing and navigation and the price is $300.00 for both days. If you only want to take one day of navigation the price is $150.00 per person, limit four per class.  Again I recommend that you take both days of navigation.

CLASS #3
This class introduces the use of the chart plotter and radar. A portion of the class will be done at night so that we can see how navigation lights work. After taking this class you will feel comfortable taking a boat up the Merrimack River and out to the ocean at night. This is a six to eight hour class and the cost is $150.00 per person, limit 4 per boat.

CLASS #4
This cruising class will sail out to the Isles of Shoals or to Rockport where we anchor. We will go ashore for lunch, and maybe swim off the beach. We will practice the skills that we learned in the previous three classes. We will talk extensively about cruising. This is a good precursor for someone that may want to buy a boat and do some cruising. Both destinations are excellent sails and should be a lot of fun. This is a ten to twelve hour trip and the cost is $200.00 per person. Limit 4 per boat.
